Sadly, when it came time to register my team,
the Milsim league up and disappeared, and
I mean it really disappeared. I created the
Tactical Paintball League to provide a format
for my team and other teams in Arizona to
compete.
Christopher, please give us
some background on yourself and the Tactical Paintball
League.
My name is Christopher Tilley. I am a husband and father of two. I pay the bills by
work full-time as a crisis counselor for children and families. I was born and raised in
Phoenix, AZ.
The Tactical Paintball League began due to
the lack of leagues available in our area. It
grew out of necessity. I had been collecting
phone numbers from the players that I had
enjoyed playing with for years, and all of the
sudden I had a new job with a lot of downtime (same pay). I began calling these players to see if they would join me in creating a
paintball team. I always had my eye on the
Milsim League, which I had played in the
year before, and I wanted to create a team to
compete. The Haboobs Paintball Team was

January 2014
We began in January 2013 in a vacant field
with 5-man teams and the same rules we use
today. We appointed referees, kept statistics
and worked out the kinks. We ran a summer
season through 2013 at Wild West Paintball
Park in Mesa, Arizona, with much thanks to
Joe Osuch for supporting us on PBAZ and
inviting us out. We are in our first full season
with trophies and medals for our top three
teams along with individual awards for outstanding players. Our games are held once
per month and the current season is currently
in progress; it runs from November 11, 2013
to our Championship game on April 6, 2014.
One game consists of two 20-minute rounds
with each 5-man team taking turns attacking
and defending. The attacking team scores objective points while the defending team tries
to prevent the attacking team from completing objectives.
What is your paintball story?
I started playing paintball in 2009 and have
rarely gone two weeks without playing a full
day of rec ball since. When my wife went to
the hospital to have our little girl Carolynn, I
was on a paintball field. A referee came running on the field and found me in the middle
of a game on a huge 20-acre rec ball field and
started screaming, “Chris, your wife’s having a
baby!” The story is that I left immediately.
What’s your game format
look like?
