In paintball there are so many places to look for events on the field . Obviously all the players , refs and flags to name the most important . But there is no single focal point . This makes it hard for someone who is not a player themselves to follow the game . Even the commentators of the webcast are struggling to catch what ’ s going on , and most of them have played ‘ ball for a long time .
I call for a review of format . The way I see it , paintball as a whole would gain from going mainstream and attract outside sponsors , and the interest of the public . To accomplish the latter , it needs to be easy to understand and watch . I am not sure how ( I do have some thoughts on it though ), but we need to adjust the format . It is too hard to watch and understand , and it is way too expensive for youngsters to be doing . but I will come back to recruitment in the next article .
I also think that formats and rules should be universal . It makes no sense to have different formats , rules and field sizes . It seems impossible for the major leagues and federations to agree on a common way , why is it so ? suggestion . They ( we ) are having fun and enjoying the game as it is . Well , sorry guys , this is for the baller of tomorrow . So they can meet the fans in a stadium and be a hero . And then we , of today , will all be watching them from the grandstands – applauding and cheering - and wishing it was us .
I also think that the tournament type events should be changed into something similar to what they do in Germany . Instead of stand alone tournaments , they have created a series of playing days . No winner each day , only overall . Again , if you look to other sports , this is usually how it is done , and I think this would be a better fit . Like the NHL for example , where you have conferences based on geography , and teams qualify for playoffs locally .
I understand that the road is probably long and bumpy to get around to any of this , possibly it will never happen . But in my most honest opinion , I think that for the future of paintball around the world , we need to agree to a simple , universal format that can be watched and loved by fans everywhere .
I know the players of today will not like this
