Bay Area News
by
Lynn Harvey
Is the year really half over? As I put
away all my red, white, and blue ‘Fourth
of July’ decorations, I realize how fast
2015 is flying by. In the Bay Area, we’ve
already had three successful play days
including our Tournament of Club
Champions (congratulations to our Low
Gross Champion - Carole Pillow of
Sunward WGC and our Low Net
Champion - Jane Sullwold of Alameda
and Redwood Canyon WGC) and our
Team Play Qualifier (congratulations to
West Valley, Callippe, Las Positas, and
Lincoln Park teams who will be
representing us in the PWGA Team Play
Championship in September). There are
four more play days to come: Santa
Clara Golf & Tennis Club later in July,
Skywest/Hayward in August, Crystal
Springs/Burlingame in September, and
Lake Chabot/Oakland in October so
there is still time to join in on some great
golf at some great courses with fabulous
women of all handicap levels.
Speaking of fabulous women, one of the
things I am most proud of as Bay Area
Director is spreading the word about the
many benevolent opportunities we have
and experiencing the generosity of our
membership. Not only did we raise
$1000 for the American Red Cross at our
2015 PWGA Workshop in February, we
continue to average about $100 per play
day for Junior Girls golf programs with
our closest-to-the-pin contests. When
the word was put out that gently-used
golf clubs were needed by June Cook,
Site Director of the LPGA-USGA girls golf
of East Bay who was teaching a golf class
at the Conservatory of
Vocal/Instrumental Arts in Oakland, so
many of you stepped up and filled my
SUV with equipment to pass on. I had
the chance to deliver the equipment
myself and enjoyed interacting with June
and her students in a classroom setting.
Last but not least, PWGA was recently
given a $250 check from the family
