CASE STUDY Elastx Choose SolidFire Platform as a Service SolidFire SF3010 deployed in Sweden-based data centre About Elastx Elastx is a platform as a service (PaaS) hosting provider delivering fully automated platforms with true vertical and horizontal scaling and no commercial or technical lock-ins. Consequently; Elastx has a much shorter time to market
and less manual maintenance. The Stockholm-based company also provides consultancy services around cloud orchestration, DevOps processes and full-stack development. They have three global data centres and use all-flash storage exclusively for their offerings. Storage Requirements Jelastic powers Elastx’s easy:PaaS offering. Easy:PaaS is a platform where customers can create a complete server environment for Java, PHP or Ruby applications. Typical Elastx customers are in the media space, hosting websites or providing software as a service (SaaS). “SaaS providers really like the scaling capabilities and being able
to clone the environment,” said Henrik Grankvist, Business Development Manager of Elastx. “We also have a number of websites that appreciate the platform as well. It’s very easy to maintain, and it can accommodate the varied loads in terms of users and visitors to their sites.” Elastx had the privilege of building their PaaS from scratch, enabling them to consider a variety of storage options as they were developing the service. “We knew we wanted an SSD-based system. We wanted de-duplication, and a scale-out design was absolutely mandatory,” explained Henrik. Elastx also wanted the storage they selected to provide more IOPS per node and to be fully redundant, so they could lose a node without downtime. Elastx’s ops:IaaS service is a public infrastructure as a service offering that is based on OpenStack, making integration with cloud software critical. SolidFire who ticked all boxes in terms of requirements,” said Henrik. “SolidFire had de-duplication and scale out, we were getting the IOPS we needed.” Beyond pure performance, SolidFire’s scale-out capabilities have resonated with Elastx’s customers. “Once an application or website is up and running, it’s also how blazingly fast it scales up and down. It’s quite common when you have peak loads to get a glitch there, but with our platform and underlying architecture it goes instantly.” Feedback from Elastx customers has been extremely positive.
