NUMBER-CRUNCHING TIME
At the time of writing, there were just under 80 days to
go until race day on 19 April and the total entries for the
2014 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon stood at 20 226.
The Trail Runs were sold out, the Ultra was rapidly climbing
towards the 11 000 limit, and the remaining 6000 entries
for the half marathon were just days away from being
allocated. In the Ultra, 7654 entries had already come in,
with 31% of them being women, and a massive 40% being
novices, while foreign entries stood at 828. Donations from
runners across the various races already totalled R195 476,
working out to an average of about R10 per entry.
GET IN WITH THE CHARITIES
If you‘ve missed out on the opportunity to enter the 2014
Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon, there is still a way
in to the country’s biggest half marathon – by running for
a good cause. For the first time, the OMTOM team have
selected charities that will sell their own batch of entries,
and each charity has a limited number of entries available
to runners who agree to raise funds for the charity. These
include Endurocad, PinkDrive, Kidzpositive, Pebbles Project,
SPCA, Reach for a Dream, African Wildlife Conservation
Fund and the National Institute of the Deaf. You’ll find all
the details on these charities and more by visiting www.
