Nahoon Point parkrun is held in a declared nature reserve,
originally deemed dangerous by many of the East London
community. That was until parkrun came along and
delivered the trails back to the city and tourists. From
fairly humble beginnings with 81 enthusiastic runners at
the first running on 11 August 2012, Nahoon has enjoyed
an average of 302 runners per outing over 76 Saturdays,
and the record turnout thus far was 710, which is also the
South African record – and we expect that record to fall
again soon!
Over 6000 individual runners and walkers have absorbed
the magnificence of the Indian Ocean at their side, with
whales and dolphins on view, the occasionally busy
shipping lane, the paddlers and the overall magnificence
of the Border/Kei outdoors. The route meanders through
bush, beach and a few rocky paths, and summits at ‘the
lookout point’ before speeding back down to the water’s
