when the South Vietnamese marines recaptured Quang Tri, the only provincial capital captured during the offensive, and the enemy’s strongest position by far. Quang Tri is located 20 miles from North Vietnam and was defended by some of the North’s best troops with the best equipment. I was out of town when this happened. When I returned to Washington, no one mentioned this significant event, and I remained ignorant of it for some time.
