Rowe becomes MU’s first
women’s indoor track and field
All-American
Junior jumps specialist Bridgette Rowe
traveled to Lincoln, Neb., on March
15, to continue her quest for a national
championship in the high jump. Her mark
of five feet, six and a half inches placed her
solidly in fourth place. The fourth-place finish
gave Manchester its first-ever points at the
national meet, and marked Rowe as our first
women’s indoor track and field All-American.
Men’s cross country tops
HCAC again
The men’s cross country team won its
fifth-straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference (HCAC) championship. Senior
Curtis Nordmann became the team’s first
individual conference champion since
2009 and was joined by fellow seniors
Jon Cafarelli, Michael Stocker, Clayton
Harlan, Chris LaFree and first-year Alex
Gudeman as All-Conference nominees.
The team earned an at-large bid to the
NCAA Division III Championships after a
strong third-place finish at the Great Lakes
Regional. The trip to the national meet
marked the third straight and fourth in the
last five years.

Recent grads use social media
to succeed in business
t started as an idea for a clothing
company operated from their house
during their senior year at
Manchester. What former
Spartan baseball standouts John
Smolinksi ’11 and Ty Foster ’11 didn’t
realize was that it would become much more.
The two now sell their Positive
Reinforcement clothing under the name
Athlete Swag, and the business is growing.
The apparel is targeted toward athletes and
sports fans and marketed through the social
media site Twitter. Joh
