Stuckey, PhD. Art historian and exhibition curator presents an examination of the work
of Janet and Kathy Ruttenberg.
November 1, 1:30 p.m. - Panel Discussion: Creative Aging. A panel of regional artists, writers,
and actors will discuss how they continue to
push the boundaries of their respective art
forms.
November 7, 1:30 p.m. - Story Hour. Listen to
a story about a theme or work in the exhibition
then continue your adventure with a self-guid-
Bechtel Rossiter and Sr. Mary James Ann
Walsh.
Coming Home to Dubuque
For Janet, who grew up in Dubuque and
went to college in eastern Iowa, the joint
exhibition will be like a celebratory homecoming. Kathy last visited Dubuque over
40 years ago, when her grandparents lived
here. “I’m excited to get there and have a
tour and see the area,” she said.
They will each have approximately eleven
pieces on display in the Falb Family Gallery. Kathy’s work will include a watercolor
tapestry in addition to wall-hanging and
free-standing ceramic sculptures, some of
them over seven feet tall, and a few that are
illuminated. The museum gift shop will have
a few of her smaller products available for
purchase, as well as an accordion book giving an overview of the work of both artists.
Janet’s works on display will include largescale watercolors and inkjet prints, an oil
painting, and a replica of the paper collage
of the Fenelon Place Elevator that she
made as a child. The girlhood piece will be in
the balcony gallery alongside selected work
from her early mentors, Dorothy
Both Janet and Kathy Ruttenberg will be
present during the opening weekend. A
members-only preview reception will be
held on Friday, October 23. Art historian
and curator of the exhibit Charles Stuckey
will give a free presentation about the art
on Sunday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m.
Regular adult admission to the Dubuque
Museum of Art is $6, with discounts for
seniors and students. Children under age

with children ages 3 to 6.
November 8, 1:30 p.m. - Film: Grey Gardens
(1975), This American documentary film by Albert and David Maysles examines the eccentric
lives of a mother and daughter, each named
Edith Beale, who live at Grey Gardens, a decaying mansion in the Hamptons. (1 hr., 40 min.)
November 10 and 24, December 8 and 22,
9:00 a.m. - Baby and Me tours. Babies and
their caregivers are welcome to participate
in a 30 minute tour of museum exhibitions.
Offered the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month
during the exhibition. Advance registration is
required.
November 7, 10:00 a.m. - Coffee + Art. Join
Executive Director David Schmitz for a caffeinated tour of the exhibits. Advance registration
is required.

and invitations to member-only events.
