UD Professor Presents at London
International Education Conference
A paper written by Professor Alan Garfield,
chair of the computer graphics and interactive media department at the University
of Dubuque, was selected to be presented
at the Fifth International Conference
on Teaching, Education, and Learning in
London, England. The
conference was held
on September 21.
The conference, one
of the leading international forums, attracts educators who
are committed to teaching international
students at their home universities. Garfield, along with his spouse, Phyllis Garfield,
director of international studies at UD, has
presented at other international conferences, but not on the specific topic of Saudi
student success.
NISOM Announces New Board of Directors, New Faculty, and New Staff
The Northeast Iowa School of Music (NISOM) announced the new members to the
board of directors. Joining the board this year are directors Susan
Hansen, Staci Stender, and Nick Thompson.
NISOM announced the following new faculty members have
joined the organization for the 2015-2016 school year: Andrew
Geyssens, cello and upright bass; Billy Richardson, flute, clarinet,
and saxophone; Rebecca Kremer, voice; and Brianna Tieskotter,
violin and viola.
NISOM also announced that new staff members have joined the
organization. Amber Perkins has joined as business manager and
Sarah Schultz took the job of office manager.
The paper, 15 Strategies to Saudi Academic
Success, was presented at the prestigious
Imperial College, the UK’s top-rated research university, located in the Knightsbridge area of London.
President & CEO Jerry Enzler to
Retire at the end of 2016
Ken Furst, chair of the board of directors
of the Dubuque County Historical Society
and its National Mississippi River Museum
& Aquarium, has announced that Jerry
Enzler, president & CEO, has informed the
board that he will retire at the end of 2016.
Enzler was hired in 1977 as the first fulltime employee of the Dubuque County Historical Society and is the founding director
of the National Mississippi River Museum
& Aquarium. Enzler, a visionary leader and
fundraiser, helped transform Dubuque’s
riverfront in 2003 with the America’s River
project. He and his colleagues worked with
leaders from the Dubuque Area Chamber
of Commerce, Dubuque Convention and
Visitors Bureau, the City of Dubuque,
and several other partners to implement
