menu and the farm-fresh-to-table taste
is definitely noticeable in each and every
dish. Executive Chef Joseph Berg has been
with One Eleven since it opened in 2007.
The menu features selections for every
taste, including a specific gluten free menu
as well. Four times a year there is a special
Chef’s Menu Series that features local,
fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu is
hand-crafted and General Manager Josh
Chavez recommends making reservations
to experience this dining delight.
Josh, a Chicago native, has been with One
Eleven Main for two years. He is a wealth
of information about One Eleven Main
and talked with passion about the history,
menu, the great city of Galena, and all that
it offers to those who live and visit the area.
Josh suggested we start with the smoked
trout appetizer in a horseradish dill cream
cheese spread. The creamy spread is served
with large crostini bread (or cucumber
chips for a gluten free option), diced red
onion, deconstructed hardboiled eggs, and
capers. The delicate smoked trout is balanced with the cool cream cheese and salty
goodness of capers. This is a wonderful
appetizer that works well shared between
two people.
Another appetizer selection – a must in
the Midwest region – is cheese curds. The
cheese curds at One Eleven Main are like
none I’ve ever tasted. The curds are battered so lightly in a Red Stripe Beer batter
that the batter itself melts in your mouth
into a gooey goodness of hot, fresh cheese.
