ach year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater
Tri-State Chapter (AFPGTS) honors donors and volunteers whose
gifts of time, expertise, and resources make a significant contribution to
the success of the nonprofit agencies and
institutions they serve. Since 1986, the
Association of Fundraising Professionals,
currently representing more than 27,000
members in 165 chapters throughout the
world, has set aside a day known as “National Philanthropy Day” to recognize the
great contributions of philanthropy that
enrich our world.
The AFPGTS Chapter will recognize and
honor those persons who demonstrate
strong contributions to philanthropy in our
community. The National Philanthropy Day
Awards Luncheon will be held on Thursday,
November 12, 2015 from 11:45 a.m.-1:45
p.m. Formal invitations will be mailed. This
luncheon provides a unique occasion for
you and your organization to publicly express your appreciation to those who do so
much to enhance philanthropic support in
our community.
2015 Award Recipients
In July, the AFPGTS had the opportunity
to announce the 2015 award recipients.
These individuals represent the profession
in many different ways. Congratulations to

the following National Philanthropy Day
award winners:
Outstanding Individual Philanthropist
Teri Zuccaro
Teri Zuccaro has made a number of contributions to support the Community
Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD)
and the Women’s Giving Center (WGC) this
year. With ten gifts logged just to support
those two organizations, she has also made
contributions to the family, donor-advised
fund as well. In addition, Teri and her husband Joe have contributed in-kind gifts for
various Women’s Giving Circle events since
she has served as the group’s president. Teri
gives much time to CFGD where she serves
as a board member, audit committee chair,
and as the organization’s treasurer.
Outstanding Voulunteer Fundraiser
Greg Birkett
Greg Birkett is the general manager and
a partner in The Dubuque Advertiser and
DA Printing in Dubuque, IA. He has been
in the free paper and printing industry his
entire life and is currently the president
of the Association of Free Community
Papers (AFCP). He is a past president and
currently serves on the board of directors
for Midwest Free Community Papers and
is also active with the Independent Free
Papers of America.
Jonathan McCoy
Locally, he is a past president of Hospice
of Dubuque and currently serves on their
board of directors, is a trustee of Knights
of Columbus Council 510, a member of the
Sertoma Club of Dubuque, a member and
past president of the American Advertising
Federation Dubuque, and is active on the
marketing committee for Hillcrest Family Services annual Reflections in the Park
lighting of Murphy Park.
Greg and his wife Sherri live on acreage
near Rickardsville, IA with their two children, Ben (14) and Samantha (12).
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
McCoy Goldsmith & Jeweler
McCoy Goldsmith & Jewelers was started
by Rob McCoy in 1973 and has operated
out of its Main Street location since their
opening. Over the past four decades, McCoy’s has supported various groups and
organizations such as The Boys and Girls
Club, Hills and Dales, and Hospice. The
philosophy of giving back to the community
