Diving Against
‘Diving Against Debris’ is a key Project AWARE (Aquatic World
Awareness Research and Education) programme, initiated by
PADI and is based on the idea that if you use the seas and
oceans you want to protect them.
“
Created by divers for divers, this global, underwater
survey of rubbish is designed to increase debris
removal efforts, prevent harm to marine life and
connect dive centre’s underwater actions to policy
changes and prevention” - Project AWARE website.
On 24th April 2015, pupils from the school in Stoupa cleared the beach of
rubbish, whilst Dive Code, the Kalogria dive centre, went underwater. In the
bay of Stoupa and the harbour of Kardamyli were objects that could certainly
cause injury to swimmers, like broken glass and pieces of twisted wire.
