hat's a Southern home without a porch? So simple, so elegant, and so beautiful,

beckoning you to come relax and enjoy. When I think of the fall season, grateful the dog days of summer are over, I recall one of my favorite memories growing up, was visiting the neighbors and sitting on their inviting front porches, discussing the events of the day, nestled beneath an ancient oak tree. I love the grand old porches of the past when life seemed simpler and everyone gathered outside to enjoy the evening breeze and when we turned to outdoor living, enjoying dining al fresco. I’ve always been an outdoor girl and having a delightful spot to land is so gratifying.

Porches are an integral part of Southern culture and inviting porches are a way to escape the world while reading a great book on a lazy afternoon. Large columns, sweeping front porches, and balconies are typical of a fabulous porch with a little southern finery arranged with rocking chairs, old fashioned shutters and a porch swing made for swinging, napping or that first kiss! Don’t you just love the wicker furniture that is so

nostalgic and lends itself so well to outdoor living? Outdoor spaces seem to be more cozy and comfortable when combined with southern charm.

My daughter and I used to stop at Elizabeth Point Lodge in Amelia Island, Florida when we were traveling north, just to sit on their porch in the white rocking chairs, to feel the ocean breeze, listen to the soothing sounds of the waves breaking and being over joyed with the beautiful peaceful view. Wow! When I told her I was writing about great southern

porches, Elizabeth Point Lodge of Amelia Island was her first thought. Elizabeth Point Lodge sits directly on the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Reminiscence of our special mother daughter times we spent together will stay in our hearts forever.
