GLOBAL ALUMNI SUMMIT GLOBAL ALUMNI SUMMIT Hult Alumni Head to Bali in June 2012 The Global Alumni Summit 2013 One location, one weekend, alumni from the last 30 years...it must be the Global Alumni Summit! May 31st to June 2 nd in Cartagena, Colombia Launched in 2012, the first Global Alumni Summit was held in Bali, Indonesia. It was led by the Indonesian Alumni Chapter and Hult in an effort to bring together alumni from all over the world from all graduating years. Every year Hult Alumni Chapters across the world place bids to host the annual Global Alumni Summit. After a month-long poll of alumni, the Colombia Chapter was chosen to host the 2013 Summit in Cartagena, Colombia! The 2012 summit saw over 80 alumni who graduated between 1980 and 2011 gather in Bali. Alumni took part in a Pocket MBA course led by Hitendra Patel, John Newman, Chris Kinsville-Heyne, Jay Zif, Yael Zif, and Steve Hurley to refresh their skill sets in Marketing, Leadership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Crisis Communications. After receiving your feedback on the 2013 Summit’s agenda, we’re pleased to announce your preferred events, topics and activities for the Summit: The summit culminated with a Balinese Gala Dinner featuring Mbaranga Gasarabwe (1991 alum and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Safety & Security) as the keynote speaker and an awards presentation to winners of the Chapter Leaders Competition and the Alumnus of the Year. They’ve also been working with the Alumni Affairs team to secure external speakers and professors recommended by you to teach a Master Class at the Summit. Byung Doo Sohn—who has held several high-profile private and public sector roles since graduating from Hult in 1985—was named Hult’s Alumni Association, Alumnus of the Year. The award recognizes outstanding achievements among former Hult students. It’s shaping up to be an interesting line-up that addresses the topics and agenda that you selected in the survey, so we are sure you will find the event both interesting and rewarding. Sohn, now Chairman of Korean Broadcasting System, began his career working for the electronics giant Samsung. After studying at Hult in Boston, he quickly took on a series of roles facilitating development between the private sector and the South Korean government. By 1997, when the Asian financial crisis hit, Sohn was at the head of a committee tasked with controlling debt and making South Korean companies more competitive. He is now widely respected for his role in implementing reforms and helping to solve the country’s financial problems.
