Older Adults!

By Patrice Jacobs and George “Chuck” Patterson!
Over 40% of deaths in Mississippi include people 50 years and older
and those living in Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties. Every first
Tuesday of the month, older adults from the Jackson, Mississippi and
metro area convene to discuss health topics that affect this population
and to discuss strategies to build healthier lifestyles through health
education and regular exercise.!
!
The aim of the “Active Life” program is to reduce the risk of heart
attack, stroke, and other chronic illnesses that lead to Cardiovascular
Disease, reduce sedentary behavior by motivating those who prefer to
“age in place” to “get moving,” and track health indicators through
medical screening. The program services are free to adults 55 years
and older and each participants will receive free Medical Screenings
(cholesterol, blood pressure & BMI), in addition to a complimentary
membership to the Tougaloo College Owens Health and Wellness
Center Fitness Center.!
