Over 40% of deaths in Mississippi include people 50 years and older and those living in Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties. Every first Tuesday of the month, older adults from the Jackson, Mississippi and metro area convene to discuss health topics that affect this population and to discuss strategies to build healthier lifestyles through health education and regular exercise.! ! The aim of the “Active Life” program is to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other chronic illnesses that lead to Cardiovascular Disease, reduce sedentary behavior by motivating those who prefer to “age in place” to “get moving,” and track health indicators through medical screening. The program services are free to adults 55 years and older and each participants will receive free Medical Screenings (cholesterol, blood pressure & BMI), in addition to a complimentary membership to the Tougaloo College Owens Health and Wellness Center Fitness Center.! !
