This is what Chris said, “EMILY ROGERS. A brave Brownie who did her best. Emily's Mum was taking the children (Emily aged 8 and her younger brother Joe) to school when she had a mishap and fell from her mobility scooter. An ambulance was called, but while waiting for the ambulance to arrive: Emily calmly rang her Dad, calmed her little brother, who was very upset, and sat with her Mum, using tissues to clean her face of blood and sat calming her down until the ambulance arrived, holding her little brother's hand all the time. Emily said that 'she had a wobbly feeling in her tummy all the time', but she DID HER BEST. What more could anybody ask. Here in Essex West we have a new award called the County Achievement Award. It was initially designed for Guides and Senior Section but in light of this incident we have realised that there should not be a restriction on age. Well done Emily and I have pleasure in presenting you with your County Achievement Award. This is the first time I have presented this Award and I am so proud to be presenting it to you. We are all very proud of you.” Our pictures show Emily getting her award from Chris in front of the Brownie pack. Emily with Mum and Dad Corina and Len and brother Joe with Chris Skinner The Essex West Achievement award is a new award designed to recognise those young members between the ages of 10 and 18 years who stand out from the crowd and are an inspiration to others. This can also be awarded to girls in the younger sections at the discretion of the awards committee. The girl must demonstrate outstanding observance of one or more of the Guide Laws which demonstrates the true spirit of guiding. Good Guiding Award Since the introduction of the Essex West Good Guiding award last year, 24 Leaders have been recognised and presented with the award. The awards were made for consistently providing a ‘Good Guiding’ programme for the girls in their unit over a period of time. They have all:Been involved at District level attending meetings, and events with their unit; Provided a variety of activities that included trying new things; Provided out of the meeting place experiences; Provided residential opportunities. If you know a ‘Good Guiding’ Leader please nominate them for recognition. Details of all awards and nomination forms are on the GGEW website.
