GGEW Summer 2011

GGEW NEWS SUMMER 2011 PAGE 8 Allo, allo, allo, what do we have here then sunshine.. A night locked in a police cell was a novel way for two Leaders to raise some money, Here is an account of their night from Sarah! hat a unique night! Had a good camp fire sing-song before being locked in our separate cells! Made sure I picked a cell with appropriate graffiti in it, for the full experience. I was exhausted after counting all the tiles in my cell (234 in case anyone is interested) and my request for soft toilet tissue was definitely not met :-( The boys and girls in blue made sure our evening was eventful by walking through the custody suite jangling keys and turning lights and alarms on as well as making very unconvincing ghost sounds. Also many unaware coppers came to use the computer equipment in the deserted custody suite without realising we were there, glad I didn't snore to loud. It wasn't an easy night but I think Amy and I both agree that we got more sleep than we would have on a Brownie pack holiday! It was a totally crazy way to raise money but so far we have raised more than £400 between us with more money coming in. Even Scotland yard have sponsored us!!!! Most importantly we are raising money for young women and girls in Essex West to travel abroad, hopefully starting their international careers!.Statically children involved in uniformed youth organisations like guiding are much less likely to end up in a police cell for real! It's certainly turned me off a life of crime. Our aim was also to raise the profile of GGUK, who we are and what we do! I think we achieved this as many serving officers were GGEW NEWS QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FOR GIRLGUIDING ESSEX WEST W COUNTY ADDRESSES COUNTY PRESIDENT Avril Brampton Carters Cottage High Wych Sawbridgeworth, Herts. 01279 724744 [email protected] COUNTY COMMISSIONER interested in our camp blankets, unit activities and the motivation for spending a night in the cells!
