GGEW Spring 2016

PAGE 8 GGEW NEWS SPRING 2016 A surprise for Adrian Adrian Riches was presented with a Girlguiding Thanks Badge and certificate by Chief Guide Gill Slocombe at Alexandra Palace. Adrian has been supporting Girlguiding longer than he has been in Scouting, after meeting his wife while her Guides washed his car! Over the past 30 years he has worked with local Districts, Essex West, Essex North East and Anglia Region, not only supporting the units his wife has run but many other Girlguiding events. Gill thanked Adrian for all his hard work and chatted to the Senior Senior Section girls, who told her Adrian was “a good cook” Veronica Riches A great gift idea - The County have some lovely pens available which are ideal presents for a visiting VIP or perhaps a gift for a Young Leader going off to university. Each pens comes in it’s own special protective pouch and at just £1.50 each won’t break the bank. They are available from the office and can be collected if you want to avoid postage charges. Do you have a story or pictures we could include in the newsletter and website. Editor:- David Henderson, SPRING 2016 Guides and Scouts have their own special train for a day in London ounty Commissioner Chris Skinner joined 400 Guides, Scouts and their Leaders when they boarded a special train on Saturday 27th February for a joint challenge day in London. Thurrock Scout Section joined with Thurrock West and Thurrock East Guide Divisions for this memorable event. The day consisted of teams answering as many questions as possible around London and then visiting the locations that related to each question and having their team’s photo taken with the answer in the background. There was a total of 400 Scouts, Guides, Explorers, Senior Section & Leaders who took part which were spread across a total of 49 teams and two Response Teams. Also in attendance was Thurrock Scouts District Commissioner Graham Monk, Thurrock West Guide Division Commissioner Jacqui Kitchenham & Girlguiding Essex West County Commissioner Christine Skinner. Because of the numbers taking part, c2c very kindly laid on a dedicated train that only stopped at Stanford & Grays before going straight to Fenchurch Street. For this amazing activity Thurrock Gang Show SAS were pleased to be able to offer the assistance of 16 Leaders who fulfilled various jobs including walking teams with the Scouts & Guides, the response team, the organising and recce team. It really was a great day and one everyone was proud to be such a huge part of. Congratulations to 2nd Stanford-le-hope Scouts B who won the Scout & Guide Competition and to Ockendon Senior Section who won the Explorer & Senior Section Competition.
