We made stitched owls and salt dough Brownies and our tree looked splendid. We obviously weren’t the only ones to think so as (out of 61 trees entered) we won first place in the Children’s category and third place overall! Brown Owl Sharon 2nd Theydon Garnon Brownies t is more important than ever that everyone keeps their details up to date on Go! This is where details are obtained for sending out information, particularly via the e-bulletin. It is on the e-bulletin that details of all up-coming events are posted, including links to booking forms and information about events. This is replacing the old way of sending out booking forms on flyers so it really is vital your details are correct and that everyone takes the time to open the bulletin when it arrives. If you know of anyone in your District/ Division who does not have access to the internet, please let them know of events and perhaps even print off the application forms and information for them so nobody is left out of the loop. There is also a new way that parents will enquire about places for Rainbows. Parents will go on-line to find Units, so it is important that postcodes for meeting places are kept up to date to enable parents to find the right Unit for their daughters. Please check to make sure your Unit is properly listed. If in doubt, have a word with your District or Division Commissioner I THE GIRLGUIDING ESSEX WEST NEWSLETTER is published quarterly for Leaders, Advisers, Members and supporters of Girlguiding in Essex West. With this in mind the county awards panel have developed a new ‘ Good Guiding’ Award which is designed to recognise members of unit leadership teams offering good guiding opportunities for the girls. The award is designed to recognise those leaders who provide a good guiding programme for the girls in their unit. They will be providing a wide range of activities, out of the meeting experiences (including residential), and get involved at District level attending meetings and events. Any member may make a nomination, however the District or Division Commissioner must support it. Nomination forms can be found on the Essex West Website. All nominations for awards must be made without the knowledge of the nominee or her family. Nominations received will be considered by the Essex West Awards panel and recommendations made to Jan Knight, County Commissioner. Those agreed will be presented at one of the ‘Awards & Recognition’ evenings taking place around the County. Please take the time to nominate those leaders who are deserving of recognition, they are often the ones who just ‘get on’ with running their unit week in week out, and unless we know who they are we can’t reward them! The next committee meeting is on 11th June, please give us a lot of nominations to keep us busy! Sandra Munns Awards Committee Chairman T Trefoil AGM recognises Long Service The County Trefoil AGM was held at Orsett in March and members were surprised when they were presented with Long Service Awards. Barbara Jordon received her 30 year award from Assistant County Commissioner Chris Skinner while Ann Hill and Jean McGouran received 40 year awards from County President Barbara Jordan Ann Hill Avril Brampton and County Commissioner Jan Knight. It’s all about saying Thank You to people who have served Girlguiding well over many years and these ladies certainly deserve their awards. It is also important to say ‘sorry’ and GGEW News wants to say just that to Sandra Cox, right, from Hornchurch who was presented with a County Silver Brooch by Jan Knight at County Day in November and we left her picture out of the Winter newsletter by mistake. Sorry Sandra, hope this makes up for the Jean McGouran omission!
