It really was magical. St Pancras Station in London was transformed into a launch pad for our magic carpet, in this case Eurostar, which was to whisk the group to France for some Mountain Top Moments which will live in the memories for years to come. Arrival at the hotels was late and everyone was excited but a good night’s sleep prepared them for a very early start in the Park on Saturday morning. A covering of snow seemed to make it even more special as all the group set off after breakfast to make their mark on as many rides as possible - and some managed to squeeze in up to 18 rides during our relatively short stay. Trip organiser and County International Adviser Diane Dickerson and her team of Mickey Takers had worked tirelessly for many months to ensure the weekend went without a hitch. The first day ended with a special Centenary dinner where one Senior Section girl was taken by surprise when Disney staff turned up with a cake for her and sang Happy Birthday, much to the deligh t of the rest of her Unit. Sunday morning and another day hitting the Park to add to the quota of rides already enjoyed the previous day. At midday everyone made their way to the Fantasy Festival Stage for a Renewal of Promise and a special Centenary Show staged by girls from all over the County. The show depicted the rise of Girlguiding from the early days of Crystal Palace to the present day and included a special song written for Essex West and performed for the first time in public. The renewal of Promise took place with a parade of flags from Units across the County, possibly the first time this had happened. Diane Dickerson was presented with a com- H memorative t-shirt and the County Outstanding Service Award Silver Brooch on stage by County Commissioner Linda Taylor, and Ockendon Guider Trisha Beckett was called on stage to receive her 30 years long service award. All our girls were praised by Disney staff for being very well behaved while obviously having a brilliant time in the Park. Every girl was an excellent ambassador for Guiding, Very well done A few pictures from the weekend are included in this newsletter but all of the images can be viewed on the Essex West website, www.girlguidingessexwest.org.uk and clicking onto the Gallery. Thanks to Bill Parkinson from Brentwood for the images he contributed to the collection. A CD of all the pictures has been produced and a copy will be sent to the leader of each of the Disney groups and further copies will be available at £5 each
