URUGUAY NEW EDUCATIONAL CENTER FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD LABOR A new headquarters of the Spanish NGO Fundación Telefónica, committed to the prevention of child labor, has just been inaugurated in Montevideo. The educational center, equipped with modern facilities and advanced technology includes showrooms, offices and classrooms equipped with whiteboards, tablets and notebooks. The headquarters is part of the project Pronino that the Fundación Telefónica has been carrying out in Uruguay since 2001 with the aim to prevent child labor through education. The project involves more than 180 schools around the Country. Since the project was launched, the Foundation has worked directly with 20,000 children and has invested more than $ 4 million in programs for social activities in Montevideo, home to half of the 3.3 million inhabitants of the country. In October 2012, it signed an agreement with the Government of Uruguay to reintegrate about 40 thousand children in the educational system. These children are currently working in this small South American nation, mainly engaged in the collection of garbage. the Diocese of Rumbek, Fr Fernando Colombo said that the Minister of State of Information has authorized the station to reopen. The South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy (SSHURSA), cited by Sudan Tribune, said that the suspension of Catholic radio station represents “an attack on the heart of the South Sudan’s Constitution”, which guarantees freedom of expression. The Human Rights group accused the Minister of Information of abusing his powers, not following the law and acting outside his mandate. Fr. Colombo has described as false and misleading media reports the station was closed for spreading political messages. She added that she expected to meet new people and share in their lives. Ms Fawzy noted that she was preparing herself for the trip for a long time and expects to have a great experience in a different place. She said that among the group there were also some Orthodox youths. CISA VATICAN: POPE TELLS PRIESTS TO BUY “HUMBLE” CARS Pope Francis said on Saturday July 6 that it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to pick something more “humble”. As part of his drive to make the Catholic Church more austere and focus on the poor, Francis told young and trainee priests and nuns from around the world that having the latest smart phone or fashion accessory was not the route to happiness.  “It hurts me when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model car, you can’t do this,” he said. “A car is necessary to do a lot of work, but please, choose a more humble one. If you like the fancy one, just think about how many children are dying of hunger in the world,” he said. Since succeeding Pope Benedict in March, the former cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina has eschewed some of the more ostentatious trappings of his office and has chosen to live in a Vatican guest house rather than the opulent papal apartments. The ANSA news agency said the pope’s car of choice for moving around the walled Vatican City was a compact Ford Focus. FIDES EGYPT 24 EGYPTIAN YOUTHS ON EVANGELIZATION HOLIDAY Youths from Egypt started a 20-day evangelizing holiday in Wau in July by participating in the life of poor people. Twenty-four young people in their twenties and thirties arrived on Sunday July 21 in Juba from Cairo accompanied by three priests and one sister and travelled on Monday by bus to Wau. Jeannette Fawzy told CRN that they were sent by the Catholic Church in Egypt to work with poor and local groups in sharing the gospel, being missionaries to the children and training in management skills and teaching. Ms Fawzy said the group prepared for one year during meetings every two months. They also worked with young people in marginalized areas of Egypt to get ready to come to Wau. Ms Fawzy said she was very excited about her participation in the evangelizing camp in Wau.
