The system is designed to ultimately generate 100% of the museum’s electricity demands. According to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the SunPower solar power system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 33,150 tons over the 30-year lifetime of the system— equivalent to removing 5,910 cars from California’s highways. They are the first gallery team to move to the piers, in order to give the lab’s developing zebrafish eggs and other organisms time to settle in and adjust to their new home.
