PREVIEW

Next year we celebrate 60 years of rock 'n' roll and with this, EPE along with SEG Events are producing the upcoming show

Elvis Presley ON STAGE. Starting in Ireland before heading to the UK and Europe, a great number of dates have already been booked and many more are planned.

Apparently this is the next step in the virtual life that is Elvis Presley. No longer do we have the TCB band and backing singers. The big screen show has apparently been ditched for a big curtain.

The venues have also been scaled down to give a Las Vegas showroom feel, as if you were actually there in August 1970.

This new approach was piloted in 2011 during Elvis Week with a hot session band backing Elvis. This show highlights Elvis from the word go, with the band members periodically highlighted through the curtain when a solo or two is being performed.

However in the 2011 show many people complained that one second Elvis was jumping from 6ft to 30ft on the screen and it was hard to focus on the show. The other main issue was of editing of Elvis and the TCB Band. People at the show let SEG Events know that this had to be rectified for this show to be a complete success. We hope these concerns have been noted.

With this new concept we have gained a new song line up - out go “See See Rider” and “Burning Love”. This show focuses only on Elvis August of 1970 engagement. Many, if not all songs featured are from “Elvis: That’s The Way It Is”. “Patch It Up” is simply awesome! “Sweet Caroline” gets an outing in these productions as well as many others, although one does wonder if the song “I Just Can’t Help Believing” will make this line up, as it has never made any video show line up in the past.

With the amount of dates already booked I wonder if session band actually means “session bands" It doesn’t seem too far out of mind that different bands would play different countries, much like a cast alternate in a play or an opera?

In saying that I would just love to see the TCB Band back this show just once.

I have no doubt that a CD/DVD will be made available if this is to be a success. Time will tell.

In the pipeline already we hear that this show will go on from Europe and also tour the USA next year, you wonder where it will end up after that? I can’t see this touring year after year; the magic with the big screen show was that Elvis’ own band was backing him. It will take something special for people to flock to see this year after year.

With the big screen show, the repertoire could be altered at any time to freshen it up, however even then the big screen show did start to become stale, but to keep the atmosphere of the "Vegas show room" there is very little alternation of songs from this line up, and then you really do wonder how it will stay fresh. I think it is entirely possible that if this is a success you will see a revamp of the “68 Comeback Special” or the “Aloha From Hawaii” show presented in the same format. One thing is for sure - virtual Elvis will never leave the building.
