FROM THE REGISTRAR’S DESK Consultation with the profession and the public has been – and will continue to be – an essential element of this multiphased initiative in these instances, that fairness to the member outweighed the argument for transparency. The protection of the public interest will always be paramount, but we must take into account our absolute duty to be fair to physicians. Both obligations are important and undermining one will not advance the other. On page 11, we discuss some of the decisions made by Council at its recent meeting to improve the clarity of information that is already public. This is a continuation of work that we began last year. We all recognize that this initiative will fundamentally change the way professions and their regulatory bodies communicate with the public about health and regulatory outcomes. And that is why consultation with the profession and the public has been – and will continue to be – such an essential element of this multi-phased initiative. Certainly, as part of our commitment to transparency, it has never been easier for you to let us know what you think. Please share your thoughts with us as we consider these important changes.
