MESSAGE FROM THE
COUNTY BOARD CHAIRMAN
It is important to me that Lake County government
constantly strives to be accountable, accessible
and transparent. There are a lot of ways that
residents can connect with county government.
This newsletter is just a snapshot of what we are
working on to ensure Lake County is a great place
to live, work, visit and do business.

A big part of our job is to invest in our transportation
system. It is a main driver in economic prosperity
and quality of life. The County has $170 million in
road improvements under construction this year
that will go toward 25 new projects which will be
started and completed this year and five new
projects which will be started late this year and
carried over into next year. In addition to widening
projects that add capacity, we have several
intersection improvements and pedestrian/bike
path projects. DOT’s new web map and our
PASSAGE system are examples of how we're using
technology to help residents get where they're going
and improve transparency. This newsletter also
highlights the other tools we’re employing to keep
you connected and in the know about county
government. You can find us on Facebook and
Twitter, and sign up for regular e-news from your
board member. Connect with us today!
It’s an honor to serve as your county board
chairman. Please contact me with any questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
Aaron Lawlor,
Lake County Board Chairman

Local governments are using the term "shared services" these days, but what does that mean?
Essentially, it's collaborating with other governments to eliminate duplication and operate more
efficiently.

Processes
As outlined in the County Board's strategic plan, Lake County continually explores opportunities
for increased efficiency and cost savings by working together with other government entities.
Some examples include: contracts to provide police services, cooperatively purchasing goods,
and sharing services, such as building inspections.
Lake County has an internal Collaborative Services Committee, and participates in two other
intergovernmental groups to advance shared services efforts inside government, and across the
region.
