CMA receives gift of three works

the South, and the things I remember, the
sights, the sounds, the scents, all act to
shape my imagery. The South is a place of
myths and haunting contradictions, but, as
James Baldwin put it, ‘the purpose of art is
to lay bare the questions which are hidden
by the answers.’ And that is what I seek to
do in my paintings.”

enter the Columbia Museum of Art’s
collection, Landscape with Red House, is a
visual testament to his comment that the
