Her impact can be seen throughout the
Museum. From Breenbergh’s St. Paul
and Barnabaus at Lystra to art glass and
porcelain in galleries 6, 13 and 14, to the
nearly 200 works waiting to be displayed
in the collection vault, Leona Sobel’s legacy
lives on.
Leona and her sister, Ethel Brody, first gave
to the Museum in 1978, a hand-painted
ceramic ewer, a brilliant addition to the
collection. Constantly working with staff,
the sisters learned of gaps in the Museum
holdings and sought to purchase muchneeded pieces to round out the collection.
Their generous contributions were on
display with the fall 2012 exhibition, A
