The Chemistry of COLORPROGRAMS RELATED Contemporary African-American Artists The Diva Hair Weaver: From Canvas to Runway: An African-American Hair, Hat and Fashion Show Lecture: Romare Bearden, Spiral and the Philadelphia Artists Sunday, April 11 | 3:00 p.m. FREE Romare Bearden is considered one of the most important and innovative artists by historians and fans alike. His primary medium was the collage – using fabric, magazine clippings, paper, painting and other materials to form a new composition of disparate component parts. Kyle Coleman discusses Bearden’s life and career, his involvement in the formation of the artists’ group Spiral, and the artistic, social and political environment of Philadelphia in the 1960s and ‘70s. Coleman is the outreach assistant at the Columbia Museum of Art. He studied at Howard University and Alabama A&M University and is pursuing graduate studies in art history at the University of South Carolina. Sharon Robinson hosts this unusual fashion show inspired by the works in The Chemistry of Color.
