COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The Art of Giving Back
Giving back to the
community through
educational outreach
is a cornerstone of the
Museum’s mission. The
Museum served 38,000
youth in South Carolina
during our last fiscal year
and we are humbled by
the life-altering effect
that our outreach
programs have on
children. For many of
these children whose
experiences otherwise
might be limited by the
boundaries of their neighborhood or community, the
exploration of other cultures and time periods through art
opens their eyes to a world of possibilities.
2009 John Richard Craft
Leadership Award
Congratulations to Joe and
Melissa Blanchard for being
recognized as the 2009 John
Richard Craft Leadership
Award recipients. Joe and
Melissa have done so much
for this Museum over the
past 15 years – volunteering
on committees, serving on
the Board, providing in-kind support, hosting wonderful parties at
their home – all in the service of helping the Museum grow while
teaching the importance of the Museum and art to this community.
Joe and Melissa were honored at the annual Craft dinner held on
October 21, 2009.
Thank You Ansel Adams Sponsors
For their gracious support of Ansel Adams: Masterworks,
the Museum thanks:
We are fortunate to have many valuable outreach partnerships
to celebrate. Through these partnerships, the Museum’s
outreach program provides after-school enrichment to
students in underserved communities. Working with
community groups, including the Police Activities League,
St. Lawrence Place, Columbia Housing Authority, Richland
One School District, Richland County Public Library, and the
Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands, these programs focus on
exposing at-risk students to visual arts within the context of
math, history, language arts, character development, and
community awareness.
