How do you experience the CMA? This is something I want to
know, and I’d like to hear more. I always enjoy talking with visitors
and reading our comment books from people about their time
at the Museum. We are actively seeking stories from you about
how the Museum has touched your life. Help us tell the CMA
story by writing your thoughts in the exhibition comment books,
talking with any of our friendly staff or providing your feedback at
columbiamuseum.org/about/feedback.
Art has the very real power to transform our perceptions. It is fascinating to hear stories
about how art affects those that travel through our Museum. A Greenwood, S.C., visitor to
Found in Translation: The Art of Steven Naifeh wrote, “I have begun to discover my aesthetic
and inspiration. This exhibit came at a monumental moment in my art career. I felt moved
and connected to this work.”
I am especially pleased to hear from young people: “What an amazing educational
experience. I am in the 7th grade and this offers a whole new way of looking at art and life,”
said a young visitor from Hilton Head, S.C., after seeing the Impressionism from Monet to
Matisse exhibition this spring.

Fiscal year 2013 was exciting for the Columbia Museum of Art, as we closed on our highest
note in terms of attendance and tourism in four years. To learn more and see a list of
donors, see our Annual Report beginning on page 13.
As the Museum grows, so does our desire to take part in creativity and innovation. So,
the CMA is reducing its carbon footprint. We have already started using email to send
membership reminders and members’ opening invitations, and this is our first Collections
e-magazine. Please be sure we have your accurate email address in order to receive up-todate information, including our e-newsletters, and follow us on Twitter, Facebook and other
social media. Going green will help us spend less so we can offer more by enhancing our
collection, exhibitions, and programs.
This fall, we are excited to welcome the great American photographer Annie Leibovitz to
the CMA as the only Southeast venue for her latest work. Her exhibition, Pilgrimage, shows
Leibovitz at the height of her powers and pondering how photographs, including her own,
shape a narrative of history that informs the present.
We look forward to the fall season and hearing from you soon.
Be the CMA and be a part of the story.
