of the month (September - May) from
noon until 3:00 pm.
A Fish Story
Sunday, September 11 | Noon - 3:00 pm
Tell your fish story by making a Gyotaku
print in the studios. Gyotaku is Japanese
from gyo “fish” + taku “rubbing” and is a
traditional form of Japanese fish printing,
dating from the mid-19th century. Take
a self-directed or guided family tour
through the Museum’s permanent
collection looking for fishing holes
captured on canvas.
Into the Mist
Sunday, October 9 | Noon – 3:00 pm
Using a palette of grays create a moody,
misty atmospheric work of art with pastels
on paper. Travel through the world of
Venice at night when you take a selfdirected or guided family tour of Michael
Kenna: Venezia.

Pandora’s Box
Take your family on an adventure with a
Family Gallery Guide and discover the
beautiful landscapes of the masterpieces
of the Hudson River School painters.
Follow the clues that lead you through the
galleries.
Miniature Masterpieces
Art Explorer Backpacks are available
for check out at the front desk. These
backpacks are complete with everything
a young explorer needs for a trek into the
wilds of Nature and the Grand American
Vision, including binoculars, compass,
sketchbook, and much more.
Sunday, November 13 | Noon - 3:00 pm
Boxes, they hold can hold so many
things… jewelry, collections, secrets.
Create a pattern and decorate your own
box. Enjoy a self-directed or guided family
tour through the Museum’s permanent
collection discovering boxes big and small.
Sunday, December 11 | Noon - 3:00 pm
In the studios, travel back in time as you
paint a miniature landscape of a bygone
era. A land of no gas stations, no malls and
no highways. Experience landscapes on a
grand scale as you take a self-directed or
guided tour through Nature and the Grand
Vision: Masterpieces of the Hudson River
School Painters. (A separate admissions
ticket is needed to tour Nature and the
Grand Vision.)
Inspired by this magnificent exhibition, the
Museum’s education team created several
events designed for family fun.
Events with this symbol are Hudson
River School themed events.

Spooktacular Night at the Museum
Saturday, October 15 | 6:00-9:00 pm
The Columbia Museum of Art and the
Contemporaries invite you to wear your
costume and enjoy A Spooktacular Night
at the Museum! Adults and their children
can listen to stories in the “graveyard,” take
spooky tours of the Museum’s collection,
decorate pumpkins, watch the magic of
John Tudor, create their own works of art
and have dinner and treats (no tricks!) with
a variety of food and drinks for purchase.

Holiday on the Hudson Family Fun Day
Saturday, December 3 | 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
This fun-filled day takes you back in
time and features strolling carolers,
demonstrations of wheel thrown pottery
and other traditional crafts, pictures with
Santa, a drop-in greeting card and gift
paper workshop, local food vendors, and
more. Free with admission or membership.
