Merry Christmas Church Partnerships News Equipping and Empowering Faith Communities to do Holistic Health Promotion Volume 8, Issue 12 Candice Coleman, Supervisor 614-546-4974 [email protected] December 2014 Kate Whitman, MSE, BSN, RN Manager 614-546-4062 [email protected] From Our Family to Yours Shopping, cooking, baking, wrapping, decorating, going here, and going there… there is so much to be done this time of year to prepare for celebrations! This year, Church Partnerships has had lots of activity: empowering you and those you serve by providing health information, health fairs, flu clinics, Round Tables, and meeting with your health teams. In 2014 we've been able to successfully offer two new initiatives: the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course and the Congregational Health Promoter course. Thank you to all of you who have participated. We want to encourage you to take time this joyous season to create memories with those closest to you by having a family movie night with some hot chocolate. We have picked two of our favorite movies to watch this time of year to share with you. Kate's Movie Picks It's a Wonderful Life. This sweet movie looks at unfulfilled dreams and aspirations in light of some of our greatest gifts - families and friends. It's also a reminder that our small deeds can make a difference in other people's lives. A Christmas Story. This movie evokes laughter as it shows funny slices of life: when the boy gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole, buying the family Christmas tree, and having to go out for Chinese food for Christmas dinner because the dog eats the dinner. We are reminded to focus on what is important and let go of the little stuff. Candice's Movie Picks White Christmas. Besides the singing and dancing, the movie showcases relationships by helping one another even though there may be lucrative opportunities elsewhere. It is also helps us to remember to get all of the facts about people before making judgments because someone's heart may be bigger than you think. Charlie Brown Christmas. The crew gets sucked into personal wants for Christmas and forgets the true meaning of Christmas until they are reminded. Silly lines in the movie, such as "Get hot water! Get some disinfectant! Get some iodine!" are hilarious! Easy Hot Chocolate 2 cups Milk 2 tsp. Cocoa 2-3 tsp. Sugar ¼ - ½ tsp. Vanilla Combine ingredients in a saucepan, heat to desired temperature, and enjoy. The delicious additions to hot chocolate are endless: whip cream and crushed candy canes, marshmallows (toasted or not), chocolate shavings, or a thick layer of chocolate fudge on the bottom of the mug. Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 1 Thessalonians 4:9 (NIV)
