Women's Preliminary Round

Sweden vs Slovakia 6:2

The Monday night tilt saw Sweden, the 2006 Olympic silver medalists, beat Slovakia 6-2.

1st Period:

Sweden's Pernilla Winberg opened the scoring on the power play after Slovakia's Edita Rakova was called for hooking.

Slovakia quickly tied it up against the flow of play on an even strength tally by Anna Dzurnakova.

The two teams then traded goals, including Sweden's second power play goal. Sweden then took back the lead on a goal by Jenni Asserholt at 16:07.

While Sweden is carrying the play and drawing penalties Slovakia has managed to stay in the game thanks to porous goaltending from Sweden's Sarah Grahn.

The first period ends with Sweden ahead 3-2. Shots were 15-6 Sweden.

2nd Period:

Early in the 2nd period Slovakia is holding off the Swedes but leaving it up to goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova to make some big saves.
