A Day of Day ’ s Matt Day ’ s Story

Well last year in April , in Clayton Oklahoma , is where my story begins . Things had been going good around the Fort Worth area for a while now , so we decided it was time to venture out into the unknown . A good friend of mine , Jason Herrin , had played at a venue Called KB ’ s ( Kiamichi Bar ) named after the Kiamichi River that runs through that whole side of Oklahoma . After talking to him about wanting to do some shows up north , he had given me the venues info , and I had called the owner . We worked out a deal to where we would come up and play , and that ’ s what we did .
They set us up real nice , treated us well , and they even went as far as to promote a song on the radio and have a big banner set up for us . Our song “ Little Redneck “ was doing great . So after the first show we went home on Easter Sunday and never thought anything else about it . So as the things around here were growing to the point of explosion between myself , and a certain band member , I decided it would be best for us to split our ways . In turn that left me high and dry on my band shows , and 2 weeks before that my Guitar player moved to California with his family . So needless to say the band shows weren ’ t looking too hot .
Me and my fiancé , Lacy , and the dog hopped in the truck , loaded up our camping supplies , a small sound system , made hand-made Cd ’ s with nice hand written labels on them and food and went to Clayton , Oklahoma , where I had called and asked for a show .
This was the most excited time I had ever had , at that point , in my music career choices . I was finally hitting the road and rambling like so many before me . The plan was to hit the east side and venture on through

To our surprise , everywhere we went in that town , people knew who we were from just from one visit and having our songs on the radio . It was like I had found my moment to shine . They loved it .
Well after about 3 months of camping , playing , coming back to Fort Worth for weekend shows , and driving 4 ½ hours away each time , we decided to try and venture out . I played a few more venues around the area , keep in mind that in that area , the towns are about an hour apart minimum , but we always based back to KB ’ s in Clayton . So at the end of summer things were going great . I was in a film documentary with interviews on what we were doing as far traveling and making everything ourselves . I even had The Balled of Billy and Becky featured in a small film from that basic area .
Well all this leads up to the few faith filled night that knocked me down in the dirt . Towards the end July and into august we had been having troubles with the bass and lead aspect of the band , as far as filling it . A few shows had to be canceled , a few shows were double booked at the venue , and the money was just not there . We had lost out on 1500 bucks in a week and a half from all the bad luck . Well , I had a show in Clayton for a big jam they were having but I was flat busted and had nothing else worth anything to sale .
I was done in my mind . The road had already taking its toll on me and my nerves by this point . It was the most amazing time of my life and the most stressful time as well .
