4 Corners - November

4 Corners A Publication of Lauderdale County School District Volume II Issue 4 November 2014 LCSD Thankful for Community Support As we enter the Holiday season, it is a time to look back over the year at all the blessings we have received. Lauderdale County Schools certainly has a lot to be thankful for. Our district is blessed to have the support of a caring community who has the best interest of students at heart. Through this continued support we are able to provided free dental screenings to our K-4 students. Thanks to Mobile Dental Services for providing these services. Throughout the year our HOSA students visit numerous clinics and area hospitals to gain hands-on experience in various medical fields. I recently visited the Intensive Care and Trauma Units of Anderson’s Hospital where our LCSD HOSA Students were hard at work caring for patients and assisting local physicians. It was so impressive to see the interactions beRandy Hodges, Superintendent tween our students and the hospital staff. Thank you to the doctors and nurses for their professionalism and support of this outstanding program. Also during the month of November, LCSD partnered with Mr. Frankie Johnson and the Central Mississippi Residential Center to present the “I Got You! Healthy Life Choices for Teens” program. This program was provided to local 8th graders and addressed issues such as suicide prevention, healthy dating relationships, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, understanding mental illness, self-injury, bullying, and healthy coping skills. Students actively participated in group sessions for an informative but fun time. Thanks to the many community partnerships that made this possible. As superintendent I am proud to see the many community service projects taking place this year in each of our schools. LCSD teachers and students provide support to Wesley House, Love’s Kitchen, Coats for Kids, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, just to name a few. Thanks to all who give of their time, talents, and resources during this holiday season and throughout the year. Lauderdale County Schools is blessed. We recently received the Lantern Award from the Mississippi Schools Board Association for obtaining a “B” rating with no schools below a “C.” This is an outstanding accomplishment for which our teachers, students, and administrators receive credit. Not only is LCSD a great district based on academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, but we are also great because of our community support and commitment to caring for others. Thank you for the part you play in this district’s success.
