4 Corners May Edition

4 Corners A Publication of Lauderdale County School District Volume II Issue 10 May 2015 LC Students Excel on 3rd Grade Reading Assessment As  we  approach  the  close  of  another  school  year,  I  am  re-‐ minded  of  what  a  great  school  district  we  have.    The  2014-‐ 2015  school  year  will  certainly  be  remembered  as  a  challeng-‐ ing  year.    However,  because  of  you,  we  have  faced  the  difCi-‐ cult  situations  and  continue  to  move  forward  as  a  district.     Our  most  recent  challenge  has  been  the  third  grade-‐reading   test.    We  are  extremely  proud  of  all  of  our  schools  and  the   hard  work  that  has  been  put  in  to  ensure  success  for  our  stu-‐ dents.    Currently,  we  are  in  the  middle  of  the  retest  window   Randy Hodges, Superintendent that  will  conclude  on  May  22,  2015.    I  am  pleased  to  report  the passing  rate  for  all  four  elementary  schools  is  now  well  above  the  state  average.       However,  we  will  continue  to  strive  to  reach  the  100%  mark  by  providing  a  sum-‐ mer  program  for  students  who  have  not  passed.    During  the  month  of  June,  teach-‐ ers  will  work  closely  with  students  on  a  individualized  reading  plan  focusing  on   targeted  areas  of  weakness,  and  another  retest  opportunity  will  be  provided  at  the   end  of  the  summer  program.     I  want  to  take  this  opportunity  to  thank  you,  the  outstanding  teachers,  administra-‐ tors,  support  staff,  parents,  and  community  leaders  for  what  you  do  to  support   this  district  and  make  it  the  success  it  is.    As  we  move  toward  the  2015-‐2016   school  year,  it  is  with  great  anticipation,  as  we  know  the  possibilities  are  endless. Have  a  wonderful,  restful  summer!
