4 Corners February

4 Corners A Publication of Lauderdale County School District Volume II Issue 7 February 2015 LCSD Prepared For The Days Ahead Our next round of state testing is almost here and this will be a big one. During the next few months we will assess all students in grades 3! 8, plus high subject area courses, at least twice. With this magnitude of testing, intensive planning and preparation are necessary. In talking with technology and our testing coordinators, Lauderdale County Schools is ready and leading most districts within the state. Although it has not been easy, our team has prepared well over 1000 computers. We have held trial runs at schools in order to test our existing infrastructure and brought in reinforcements when needed. Because of our level of preparedness, we do not anticipate there to be any major issues when the Randy Hodges, Superintendent window o"cially opens. If there should be an issue, our test coordinators and technology sta# are equipped with the knowledge and resources to handle whatever comes. We want our students to per! form to their potential, and they know when we are anxious and on edge. Therefore, I encourage you to enter each testing session relaxed and confident that there is no problem we can’t handle. I also want to take this opportunity to recognize some outstanding accomplishments within our dis! trict. Congratulations to the Southeast High School Boys Soccer team for winning the State Champion! ship. Thank you to the coaches, Mike Thomas and Josh Johnson, for your hard work in reaching this goal. Congratulations to the Northeast High School Cheerleaders, coached by Tammie Pirie, for win! ning the state championship for the second year in a row. They compete in the large varsity, non! tumbling division. Also, congratulations to the West Lauderdale High School Competition Cheer team, coached by Charlotte Chaney, Sara Freeman, Laura Bowles Posey, Johnny Taylor, and Bradley Presley, for winning the state championship for the 5th time in the small varsity tumble division. We are proud of you! In addition, on February 8, 2015, at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Hayley Williams won her first Grammy for Best Rock Song, “Ain’t It Fun.” She is the daughter of Kim Williams, Assistant Principal at West Lauderdale High School. Congratulations to Hayley and the entire Williams family. What an ac! complishment!
