This year’s show takes place November 22-24 at the Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca, Illinois – very close to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. We are the official auctioneer of this important event. Auction viewing is in the Gallery Ballroom next to the show floor, with the live auction taking place in the nearby Chambers Lecture Hall on Saturday and Sunday. This sale offers more than 2,700 auction lots, with estimates close to $3 million. We are pleased to offer a very strong selection of high quality United States and Worldwide stamps, covers and collections. Plus, there are some very nice coin lots at the beginning of the sale with Lots 2 and 3 – $10 and $5 Capped Bust Gold coins (estimated at $10,000 each). Session I begins Saturday at 11am, covering Coins and USA Stamps singles, plate blocks and sheets. The sale is chock-full of interesting and unusual material. Some highlights include several attractive 1851 imperforates, such as a GRADED 90 example of the 1¢ (Scott #8, Lot 62) and 12¢ (Scott #17, Lot 91). We also have several key Special Printings of the Bank Note era, including the 15¢ Webster (Scott 199), of which fewer than 50 are known and even fewer are sound. We offer a sound example estimated at $37,500. We have two Pan-American INVERTS including the 2¢ (Lot 631, $45,000 estimate) and 4¢ (Lot 632, $22,000 estimate). In Washington-Franklins, we are offering one of the RARE 4¢ bluish papers (Lot749, $23,000 estimate). There are even a few modern rarities, such as one of six known plate blocks of the black-violet color error of the Prominent Americans issue, listed for the first time in the 2014 Scott Specialized (Lot 1497, $5,000 estimate). In addition, we feature 82 lots of fascinating EFO material, some of which won’t break the budget. Lisa Pettibone Accounting Session II starts at 11am on Sunday, covering British & Foreign singles, USA & Worldwide covers and collections. Of particular note in our covers section is Lot 2366, a gorgeous example of one of only 14 known covers intended and marked for the ship ‘Titanic’. This one may well be the best surviving example. Of special interest is a sheets grouping of Korea (Lots 2089-2099 and 2391), part of a long dormant collection with several presentation books and rare sheets. But the great strength in Session II is in our collections and accumulations, which top well over $500,000. More than half of this is found in U.S. collections alone. Plan to dig in and spend awhile viewing these lots, there’s much to be found.
