Cover addressed to prisoner of war in Aix-la-Chapelle, franked
with proper 40c Ceres for rate to bordering countries (Prussia)
and tied by star cancel. Postmarked ‘Paris/R.St.Domque St
Gn 53’ on January 15, 1871 at 6am, which is late for the 3am
flight on that date of the ‘Vaucanson’ balloon. Red boxed ‘PP’
at left, no receiver on back. Some damage as typical, fine. On
exhibit page for ‘Vaucanson’ flight. Cat $375.

with small faults, each tied with mute star, 1/10/71 ‘PARIS/
(60)’ cds at left, blue boxed ‘PP’ ties 20c, manuscript ‘Par
ballon monte’ upper left; 1/14/71 London receiver on back.
Charming letter in French, English translation included, the
writer assures her sister that she and their mother were OK
during the siege, ‘We do not have an abundance but we are not
dying of hunger. We regale ourselves with horseflesh and
rice...instead of beef or mutton we have horse meat, dog, cat,
even rat, very delicious food!’ Soiled, separations at folds, fine.

Taku New Port 1969.12.24’ cds. Very colorful & attractive.
Clean, fine to very fine, tiny tear at right. Covers mailed during

different stamps (by Scott/Michel): The Red Lantern (#983/
#1010), Raid on White Tiger Regiment (#984/#1011), Taking
Bandit’s fort (#987/#1012), Snow Patrol (#1015/#1039), the
Patrol sets out (#1048/#1064), Yang (#1051/#1067), and
Frontier Guard (#1053/#1069). Small tear from opening at top
right corner. Clean attractive colorful cover, very fine. Covers
mailed during ‘Red Guard’ Cultural Revolutionary Period are
extremely scarce & valuable!

FRENCH INDOCHINA ................................................ PH $2000
Fabulous registered RED BAND cover to Haiphong/French
Indochina. Franked with China Carp 20¢ stamp tied by
CANTON cds ‘1 JUL 01,’ and with large bold ‘R’ to Haiphong,
in combination with pair of Hong Kong 10¢ Victoria stamps
on reverse, tied by framed ‘I.P.O.’ cancel. Transit ‘HONG
KONG JY 2 01’ and arrival ‘5 JUL 01.’ Very fine. Makes for a
really nice showpiece!
