$200
Amazing single franking use of 2¢ Banknote on large poster
sized advertising broadside (about 20"x27") illustrating and
promoting fancy ‘Garnkirk Vases.’ Garnkirk, originally a
firebrick manufacturer, began producing larger, ornate pieces
with a Greco-Roman flair. The company exhibited fine vases
at the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition and eventually became
known as a major maker of these goods, until the clay pit was
exhausted in 1895. Stamp tied by fancy circle of wedges cancel.
Great showpiece and the LARGEST piece of mailed advertising
matter we’ve seen! From the long-buried Ezra D. Cole stock.
